If you have a missing tooth or teeth, you’re probably getting tired of being hindered in what you can and cannot eat. Depending on where the gap is located, you may also be feeling self-conscious about your smile. The good news is, there is a solution available at daily DENTAL & bracesbar. With a dental bridge, you can have both the function and appearance restored to your smile.

What is a Dental Bridge?

A bridge is a dental prosthetic that replaces a missing tooth or teeth. Its name comes from the fact that it literally bridges a gap in the teeth. It is usually supported by a dental crown that is attached to what is referred to as abutment teeth. Dental bridges can be made from several different materials, such as gold, alloy, porcelain, or a combination of these materials. There are also different types of bridges that can be used, depending on the location of the gap in your teeth.

How are Bridges Placed?

The complete procedure to have a dental bridge placed will take at least two visits to our dental office near you. The first visit is for the preparation of the abutment teeth, and the second is for the actual placement of the bridge.

To prepare the abutment teeth, your dentist at daily DENTAL & bracesbar will shave off a small amount of the teeth that neighbor the gap in the teeth. This is necessary to create enough room for a dental crown to fit on the tooth. Once the tooth reaches the right size and shape, your dentist will take an impression of it and send it to a dental lab. The bridge will be created off-site in the dental lab, so there is a short waiting period required. In the meantime, a temporary bridge will be placed onto the prepared teeth to keep them protected.

When you return to our office after the bridge has been completed, the temporary bridge will be removed and the permanent one put in place. Your dentist will check the fit and make adjustments as needed before it is cemented into place. You may need additional follow-up visits to get further adjustments in order to get the perfect fit.
