What Is Root Canal Therapy?

Root canal therapy is a procedure designed to save a tooth that has become severely infected or damaged. Inside every tooth is a soft tissue called the pulp, which contains nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissue. When the pulp becomes inflamed or infected due to deep decay, repeated dental procedures, cracks, or trauma, root canal treatment removes the damaged pulp, cleans and disinfects the interior of the tooth, and seals it to prevent further infection. Without treatment, the infection can spread, leading to an abscess and potential tooth loss.
